Summer Lush List

Untitled #6

The sun is FINALLY making an appearance and I couldn't be happier!
I love preparing for this season, I change up everything, my clothes, my hair and even my make up!
My latest list contains some of the beauty items I've been luring after for summer.

Melt Cosmetics - The matte lipstick brand created by Instagram star now turned Riri's MUA Lora. Her and her partner in crime Dana have created a small but eye catching range of matte lipstick that I have been lusting over for some time now.
I have my eye on DGAF, Blow and Shady Lady right now. The only thing putting me off is the shipping, but for these gorgeous lippies I'll just have to bite the bullet!

NARS Contour Blush in Geniah -  This is a product that NARS is due to release very soon! A contour duo with a lighter and darker shade to provide a more natural contour. I think it's a fab idea and Geniah really looks like a great shade for WoC. As it yet to be released feel free to grab some info regarding this duo from Temptalia

A La Carte London  Bespoke Foundation -  There is something about having your own bespoke foundation that fills me with  unexplained glee!
A La Carte offer bespoke make up for products such as lip glosses, lipstick and eye shadows but my eye is on the foundation.
A perfect match?! Yes please!

Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette - After seeing this post I realised I needed a this palette in my life. I think matte yellows look amazing on darker skin tones and would really love to experiment with all the colours including the ever famous Poison Plum.

MAC Eye Shadow Palette - For the first time, a few weeks ago I went into MAC and swatched some of their eye shadows...this was a bad idea as I fell in love immediately! Initially I wanted to pick up the Warm Neutral palette when it landed but it wouldn't contain all the shades I wanted so I guess this summer I'll start creating my own MAC palette.
Very excited...bank account is not!

Charlotte Tilbury The Perfect Vamp Kiss -  You guys already know about my lust over Charlotte's make up range. This kit looks perfect for me, the focus is on creating the perfect vamp lip, but wow, is this pricey!
Alas, the heart wants what it wants!

Make Up Geek Pigments - I already have a few MUG products that I have found outstanding so I know these pigments will fit the bill.
These pigments come in a gorgeous array of shades and are heavenly pigmented. You can tell the MUG team put a lot of work into their products which is something I really love in a brand!

La Femme Blush Palette -  I'm not sure why I do not have a La Femme blush palette in my possession yet! From what I've seen La Femme blushers are pigmented, long wearing and fantastic in price with many shades that suit WoC. This is a must have, that I MUST HAVE!

MAC Lip Mix in Crimson - You can blame NikkieTutorials for this one, check out the AMAZING red lip she created with Crimson and Riri Woo. I've been obsessed with adding Crimson to my collection ever since. A MAC Pro product but worth the extra effort in my opinion!

What's on your summer make up wish list?

Summer Make Up Essentials

The UK is usually either hit or miss during the months of July, August and September. It's almost as though the weather never gets the memo regarding summer, however this year, jheeeeeez it's definitely caught up!

IT HAS BEEN HOT!!

Some days I have loved it, others, not so much (I work in an office without AC, sigh.)
The hot weather has also been a bother for us make up lovers, it has been near impossible for me to put on makeup and to be honest I was just too scared to risk it, but once the weather cooled down I indulged in my cosmetics.

I have combination skin (mostly oily t-zone) so I need to be careful in hot weather, however, I've found a few products that have been working amazingly for me in this summer!

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer - This is a great lightweight primer that I use solely on my T-zone to stop that midday shine. I love the consistency of this as it isn't too heavy and it's a fab pocket size as well!

MUFE Face & Body - For a base I've been loving everything lighter, BB creams are great to wear in this weather especially for those of you with dry skin. I've been reaching for either my Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, Sleek BB Cream or my MUFE Face & Body. This foundation is very sheer but fantastic for summer, for extra coverage go in with a corrector before you apply and top up with concealer afterwards.

MAC Studio Fix Powder - I just picked this up recently so I'm cheating a little bit by putting this up as a fav. This is too light for me to use solely as a foundation (even though it's in my shade...thanks MAC, not!) however a light dusting of it over my base really helps to set it.

Covergirl Queen Bronzer in Ebony Bronze - Thank GOD for this product! A beautiful and super affordable bronzer for us ladies of colour! I love the healthy sun kissed glow it gives me when I've applied this after my foundation, this is definitely one of my favourite beauty products of all time, a real winner!

Graftobian Setting Spray - Hairspray but for the face! (Kevin Hart voice) This stuff is REAL! It took me a while to learn how to use this but I've now got the hang of it, I spray it on my brush and then stipple it on my face. This sets my makeup fabulously and makes sure it lasts all day!

MAC Pressed Blot Powder in Dark - Those of you will an oily disposition lisssen up! This stuff is a GOD SEND! I suffer from a really oily t-zone which is super annoying for a person who likes the matte look. I find only an hour has to pass before my face becomes reflective but once I apply this, it is all resolved. This is one of those products you need to have in your handbag! Two thumbs up from me!

Daniel Sandler's Watercolour  Fluid Blush in Dare - Possibly one of the smartest cosmetic products around. Heat is no match for this fiesty lil bottle of blush.
This blush is waterproof and blends into the skin effortlessly leaving you with the most natural flush of colour that lasts all day! Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself! Daniel offers samples in his range of watercolour blushes, you can order them from HERE

Maybelline Color Tattoos - I am aware of the various fads that pass through the blogosphere, I usually tend to ignore them because I feel that most times the product is overhyped, however, when I decided that I wanted to play around with more colours, eyeshadow wise ,I went to Boots to take advantage of their Maybelline offer and I picked myself up some colour tattoos and you know what? This is a hype I can understand! Not only are the colours absolutely STUNNING, they are long lasting, creaseproof (for those of us with oily lids) and inexpensive for the amount of product needed. This is a fab product to ensure you eyeshadow lasts all day and retains pigmentation! Will definitely pick up more of these!

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara - My first 'pricey' mascara but definitely worth it. This mascara really separates the lashes and opens up the eyes, the wand is fantastic as it is slightly tapered so it can really be used for the upper lashes as well as the lower. This stuff stays all day! Definitely one of my favourite mascara's, the only down side? It dries up quite quickly :(

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold -   This blush is a relatively new buy that I discovered by accident in Superdrug. A tester of this was open and had been used quite hevaily, I had seen the gold sheen that it gave off from this tester and fell in love with it immediately! For a blush its a little bit underwhelming but for a highlighter this is PERFECT especially for us women of colour. The gold flecks are so finely milled it just glides on, you can also add this to your favourite matte blush to jazz it up!

Mary Kay Makeup Finishing Spray - A good finishing spray is the foundation to flawless looking make up. It is also a must for hot weather. We tend to put on more make up sometimes in the hot weather so to avoid the cakey look a setting spray is a must! The Mary Kay Finishing Spray is too fold, not only does it take away the cakey-ness for a more natural look it is also amazing as a face mist. This finishing spray was created by Skindinavia for Mary Kay so you know you're not going to be disappointed  This feels so cooling on my face and the mist sprays evenly and lightly. This is another one for the handbag and great to use on stuffy public transport too.

All the above are fantastic products that keep my make up look 100 in the summer.

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme Review

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme - Earth Medium
Life seemed so much simpler before BB creams came into play.
I was happy and relatively comfortable with tinted moisturisers, however when BB creams came out of their shells my curiosity got the better of me.

As with most beauty products finding a BB cream that was accessible, affordable and in my skin tone became a problem and to be perfectly honest it is still a problem, a big and stupid problem for women of colour to be experiencing in today's age however that's a rant for another time and place.

When I heard the message for bloggers to review the IMAN Skin Tone Evener* I jumped at the opportunity like white on rice! I had had a reader of DOS previously ask me to review this product last year and since then I've been waiting patiently for it to hit our shores.
I responded to the request quickly and requested the shade Earth Medium.

Ok so first things first, let's get it out of the way, Earth Medium was the wrong shade for me, it has a bit too much red in it, NW45's or anyone with red undertones this may be the summer shade for you.

Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty!
The IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB creme is paraben free with an SPF 15, not super high but the protection is there which is fantastic for those of you who love minimal make up in the summer, two birds one stone really.

Application

I applied this by squeezing a 1p piece on the back of my hand then I went in with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and buffed the creme into my face, adding more product where needed.
I then used my MAC Blotting powder to lightly blot my face as I have oily skin (a real pain for a BB cream lover)

My Thoughts

The most important requirement of a BB cream differs from person to person but my main requirement is how it feels on my skin.
This is where this product is a winner for me! I loved the texture! It was light and silky with sheer coverage, the complete opposite to Sleek's Beauty Balm which is a little bit more heavy duty.

If only it was in my skin tone!! Grrr!

This gives a gorgeous healthy glow to the skin and covers my blemishes relatively well. When I first wore it to work I received compliments on how my skin looked. This product really does even out your skin tone and creates a gorgeous and light natural base.
Lipstick: MAC Smoked Purple
I think this product would be absolutely PERFECT for those of you with dry skin who love the natural dewy look, it is nourishing but light enough to wear on warm days.
Those of you with oily skin may want to avoid this one, as you can see even though I did blot there is still shine.

Where To Buy

The IMAN Skin Tone Evener comes in 6 shades (I may actually be more a of Clay Medium Deep but don't quote me on that) of which the lightest is suitable for caucasian skin.
This product is not yet available in the UK but keep an eye on the IMAN website where it will be available soon!

Summer Beauty Lush List

Untitled #3
1/2/3/4/5/6

Summer means new make up!
Plain and simple!
I've been looking for new additions for my summer beauty lush list and I think I've done prettttty well!
Check out details below:

1. Guerlain Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder in 08 Ebony - I came across this bronzer whilst window shopping in Beauty Base. The thing I loved about this bronzer was it's shade, suitable for women of colour and just stunning in tone. I've been dreaming about it ever since I swatched it! Pricey at £34.00 but you get what you pay for with luxury make up! LUSH!

2. MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 in Medium Deep - If you are a regular reader of DOS you would know about my love of BB creams. I love their light weight consistency and the ease in which you can apply them.
I literally received the email regarding the new shades of the MAC BB creams yesterday! I am so happy that they have now released darker shades, it would be silly not to really. I have figured out that I am the shade Medium Deep but will be making my way to MAC just to make sure. Can't wait for this one and with SPF 35 too which is fab for summer! UPDATE: Medium Deep is FAAR too light. Maybe not for this one!

3. Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush in Spicy - If you watched my IMATS haul you would have seen that I already own a watercolour blush; in the colour Dare which I love but I originally wanted the colour Spicey.
Spicey is a warm orange that would really compliment my skin tone and would give a gorgeous summer glow!

4. MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick (Pro) - I first saw this lipstick on Instagram and when I did I instantly fell in love! Granted it isn't a summeriest colour but I've really been reaching for my dark lippies lately.
This is a matte dark purple which is just stunning, if you don't believe me see for yourself. Smoked Purple is from the MAC Me Over collection which was released 2 years ago (late, I know!) however it can be purchased from the MAC US site and I believe this is now a Pro lipstick. Will definitely be seeing if I can pick this stunning lippie up!

5.  Diorskin Nude Tan Natural Radiance Bronzing Powder in 007 Mocha - As you can tell I'm falling in love with bronzers. It is so difficult and almost  impossible to find bronzers for my skin tone so when I do find one I fall for it immediately! I came across this bronzer whilst walking around Boots. It is just urgghhh, BEAUT-TI-FULL! Mocha is a gorgeous burnt brown with slight shimmer that compliments women of colour perfectly! Once again slightly pricey but this is Dior!

6. OCC Lip Tars - I love these things! So much so I can't even choose what colours I want, I just want them all!
Right now Anime, Pretty Boy, Yaoi and Beta have caught my eye. That's the shortest my list can get!
I love these lip tars and the great thing is they can be used to create custom colours for your lips. Lip Tars are an absolute winner in my books and a great product for summer!

Do you own any of the products?
Do you have any recommendations? Let me know in the comments section!

Blonde Ambition

A change in the weather means a change with the hair.
I've always wanted to go blonde and finally took the plunge yesterday!
I was going to go to a hairdresser but figured it would be cheaper to try myself first, so I took myself down to my local Sally's and picked up loadsa bleach and salon hair dye.
(L'Oreal Majirel in 7,3 and 9,0)

Two glasses of wine, several feet of foil and a few hours later I had a new install with loadsa help from Mama DOS.
This hair is the same hair that I've been wearing since January that I brought from Ali Express, you can see my initial post HERE.
It's been through alot (I know the ends look a bit dry but these pics were taken before I had deep conditioned after all the bleaching) but it's still standing and well worth the price, I don't think I will be buying hair from UK suppliers for a long while!

I'm also wearing a closure purchased from H Closures
I didn't bleach the knots and yet it still looks lovely and natural, I will see how this pans out after I've worn it in as my last closure couldn't deal with my lifestyle!

In other news I've been really getting into filming videos for my YouTube channel so feel free to check out my latest Summer Beauty Favourites video below!

Mettallips

I love experimenting with make up, it's one of my favourite things to do!
A few nights ago I decided to put my skills to the test and try out something more daring, so I rummaged through my collection and applied what I could find and this is what I got!
 I love the result!
I used my beauty blender to apply the base, normally I'm not a fan of beauty blenders but for cream foundations I can understand why people love them, it gives such a flawless finish. I think I'll be using it more often with my Graftobian foundation.
I also think I'm getting there with the winged eyeliner.#Winning!
All details to what I have used can be found below.

Face

Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm
Make Up For Ever Camouflage Palette in No.4  - No.21 to correct, No. 20 & No.16 to highlight my brows

Ben Nye Translucent Powder in Topaz
Sleek Contour Kit in Dark
Cover Girl Queen Bronzer in Ebony Bronze Q120

Generic Matte Brown E/S for base
Makeup Geek Eyeliner in Immortal

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder in Celebration

Styletto is a really gorgeous colour! I matted it out by blotting to give the desired look above.
I am also really loving using make up products for other uses then intended.
The Shimmer powder is fab and can be used as eye shadow, highlight and bronzer too!
I'll be creating a post soon with products that can be used several ways so stay tuned for that!

What do you think of the look?
Anything you would change?

OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie

One of my purchases from IMATS London (post HERE) was this Lip Tar by OCC.

I had heard so many great things about the Lip Tars but the thing that stood out to me was their pigmentation.
I picked up my first ever lip tar a few months back, that was Black Dhalia, a GORGEOUS deep berry shade.
I absolutely love it, so when I heard OCC were going to be at IMATS I knew I had to pick up another one, so I did!

Say hello to OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie.

This is a cool and creamy pastel magenta colour with blue undertones which dries to a slightly matte finish.

I love the way this looks on me!
It is lighter than the bolds I normally wear on my lips but I think the cool undertones work well with my skin tone.

I applied this by gracefully 'blobbing' a drop (and I mean a drop, a little goes a loooong way) of it on my bottom lip and working it in with my finger, I find this give me the best coverage, however OCC does provide small lip brushes with their lip tars.

One of the cool things about this product, besides it's awesome pigmentation is it's peppermintiness.
Yes! That's right!
It contains a small amount of Peppermint oil which gives a weird tingly sensation when you apply.
Nothing too annoying and long lasting but just enough added fun!
Here I've worn Hoochie with Barry M's lip liner in Plum 11, you can also wear this with MAC's Nightmoth lip liner too for a more dramatic lip.

From seeing swatches of this lip tar its evident that this colour has changed over time but I've gotta say I love this version more!

OCC Lip Tars can be brought from various online stockist including Selfridges, Cute Cosmetics and Love Makeup.

Do you own any lip tars?

What colours would you recommend?

IMATS London 2013 Haul

Last Saturday I found myself at IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) London 2013.

It was the first time I had been and
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
It was literally my idea of heaven besides the heat and the queues!

I picked up a few bits and bobs that I am really happy with, my only regret was not actually buying anything off the NARS stand, if I had known it was 60% off I would have gone to town but you live and you learn!

I will definitely be going back next year, I've already begun my list! Haha!

Scroll down for some pics of the day as well as my haul video!

I've tried out and worn all of the products above and I was super happy with everything.

If you're a make up lover I would definitely recommend IMATS to you!

Did you go IMATS?

If you did what did you pick up?

Grown Woman

Beyonce fever has gripped me!
I like to play like she is just ordinary to me but I always seem to break.
I went to her London concert and had such a good time I'm sure I blacked out for a while.

Her song Grown Woman has had me up and shaking a leg.
The modern Timbaland sound mixed with the essence of an African beat...PERFECT.

Grown Woman has also inspired this look I threw together.
I love the bold lips paired with a smokey eye.
I used the Wet N Wild Comfort Zone Palette (which I lurrve) for this look which I received from the lovely Jenn from Spiced Beauty in a make up swap!

I know there's the rule of either a bold eye or bold lip not both but you know what?
I'm a grown woman and I can do whatever I want ;)

Face

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Face Primer
Daniel Sandler Perfect Canvas Foundation in Shade 12 and 14
L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Fawn

What do you think?
Do you think the rule of either bold lip or eye should be revised?

Beauty Lush List

Beauty Lush List

1/2/3/4/5/6

I'm a shopaholic!
A beauty shopaholic.
I have no idea where this obsession came from but in some cases, this obsession is slightly cheaper than your average shoe shopaholic.
Anyway, enough with trying to justify this, let me tell you about the beauty goodies I've been lusting over lately!

1. Make Up Geek Eyeshadows Ultimate Palette - I have been lusting over these for ages! After coming across Marlena's Youtube page and seeing how pigmented her eyeshadows were and how gorgeous the colours were, I fell in love! These eyeshadows are a fraction of the MAC shadows and great for beginners or MUAs!

2. La Femme Blushes - No brainer really! Another case of great value and high pigmentation. I've begun to fall in love with blushes especially oranges however I would love to try out some of the Fuchsia shades that La Femme offer!

3. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation in 6.5 Warm Almond - Sometime last year I booked myself one of Bobbi Brown's Complimentary Make Up Lessons at Westfield White City. The consultant Lea was super helpful and one of the products she used and recommended for me was Skin Foundation. Very lightweight and natural, I loved the look and have been meaning to purchase this ever since.

4. Topshop Blush Stick in Acting Up - I had to throw this some Twitter love! Every so often a Topshop email ends up in my inbox and contains an item that makes me fall in love, in this case it was this blush stick. As you have already read above, I am now becoming blush obsessed, especially orange blushes! I have never owned a cream/waxy blush but when I saw Acting Up I knew that we were meant to be! I think this would be perfect for summer...if we ever get it. *sad face*

5. OCC Lip Tar in Black Dhalia - Yooooooo! This colour is GORGEOUS! I happened to come across this colour whilst browsing blogs and I immediately decided that I needed it in my life. Black Dhalia is a deep wine berry colour that sits gorgeously on lips (go on Google it, I'm sure you'll agree!)
I am waiting to see if OCC are going to be at IMATS for a cheeky lil discount if not I think I will have to shell out the moola for this bad boy!

6. Lime Crime Candy Future Lipstick in Poisonberry - I'm on a mission guys! To find the perfect purple lip! Don't ask me why! I just am damnit!! And I believe Poisonberry could help me out greatly with my mission. Posionberry is described as an opaque (winning!) violet purple berry, I mean, cmonnn! You cant get more purple than this! Absolutely lusting! All I need is a great lipgloss to go over it.
Any suggestions?

Daniel Sandler Swatches and Initial Review

If you have read my previous post you'll see my recent Daniel Sandler haul.

I have swatching away like a busy bee to give you an initial review of the products I picked up recently!

So go and get yourself a good ol' cuppa, get comfy and let's get started!
(Don't forget to click the pictures to enlarge!)

Firstly let's talk about...

Perfect Canvas Fluid Foundation

Daniel Sandler Perfect Canvas 10 12 14 15

Daniel Sandler's Perfect Canvas Fluid Foundation is described as a foundation that:
" provides invisible perfection for every face and skin tone. Proven outstanding in providing a gentle, and uniformly applied makeup to even out skin tone and blemishes, leaving a velvety smooth finish, providing medium coverage"
and I totally agree!

Perfect Canvas is for those of us who want to even out our skin tone for a natural everyday look.
I liken the finish of it to MAC Studio Fix Fluid.
I found that you do not need a lot of this product for it to work well for you.
I firstly applied Shade 10 with a dry stipple brush however applying it this way made me feel like I had far too much product on so I went in again with my fingers and blended it into areas of my face that needed coverage.

This provided a more natural look which I loved!

On a separate occasion I also wore Shade 15, applied with a damp stipple brush. This was by far my favourite way to wear this foundation. It provided me with a dewy, natural and even looking skin tone.

The great thing about this product is that it is multi faceted!
It is a great product to mix with your daily moisturiser for a dewy natural look or this can also be used as an under eye concealer! Fab or what?!

What I absolutely adore about Daniel Sandler's products is the colour range!!
As a woman of colour it is always a God send to find a beauty range that not only caters to women of colour but the different tones that we come in!
As you can see above Daniel's products cater for reddish undertones as well as golden undertones.

I have swatched Perfect Canvas along with my other foundations so that you can get an idea of the tones of Perfect Canvas.
Daniel Sandler Perfect Canvas 10 12 Comparisons
Shade 10 is the shade that is most suited to my skin tone (at the moment) as you can see from the swatch above. I expect when the sun finally shows itself I may have to adjust this which I can do by mixing shades together.

Next we have...

Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact SPf25

Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact 8 10
Catwalk Compact is described as the following:
"Cream-in-a-compact leaves smooth matte finish and setting properties of a powder... Coverage is buildable, from moderate to high. Suitable for combination to oily skin types."

Initially I was not going to pick up this compact, I had never used a cream to powder foundation but from personal recommendation from Daniel himself I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did!!

This product is fabulous!
Great to store in your handbag and easy to apply.
It is also very light weight which makes it blend in like a dream!
As you can see from the swatches above this product is build-able providing medium to full coverage.
I would say try this out if your a fan of MAC's Studio Tech foundation.

The website recommended applying this with a damp brush for a sheer look, however I applied with a stipple brush, powdered and set with MAC Fix + for a more full coverage look.
Before and After Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact 8 10
Here I used as many of the products above so that you can get an idea of tones and coverage offered. I am normally one for sheer/medium coverage but for the sake of this review I built up coverage to medium to full.

I applied both shades of the Catwalk Compact on my face and Perfect Canvas in Shade 10 underneath my eyes.
I then set my face with On The Loose powder in Shade 15.

As it seems like it has been winter forever here in the UK, these shades are coming up a little bit warm for me, (my winter shade is quite pale) however I don't imagine this being a problem in the summer.

All in all I am super impressed with this products!
They are a FABULOUS price as well as being Women Of Colour friendly!
They are also VERY versatile.
Each product can be used a number of ways ensuring you get the best use out of it, which is great for those of you who like to customise your make up or who work as MUAs!

For more information or to purchase these items visit Daniel Sandler's website HERE.

What do you think of Daniel Sandler products?
Are you tempted to try them out?
