Veil Cover Cream Demonstration Kit

If you are new to the blog you may or may not know that I have several tattoos.
Some are visible which is generally not a problem for me, I don't think I've ever been denied a job due to them but some people are not as lucky as I am.

This is where Veil's Cover Cream comes into play.

Veil's Cover Cream is totally different to cosmetics we're all generally used to from our local department and high street beauty stores, this is due to it's main purpose.
Veil creates camouflage cosmetics to help cover scars of all kinds from acne scars to surgical scars.

When I heard that Veil were looking for bloggers and vloggers to review this product I jumped at the chance, I wanted to know how camouflage cosmetics worked as well as if they had shades to suit my skin tone.

I was kindly sent the Veil Cover Cream Demonstration Kit* to review.

Firstly let me start off by saying...the colour range!
IMPRESSIVE!
I cannot lie, I was overwhelmed by the amount of browns in this kit!
From Ebony, to Brown to Umber.
This kit is here for your customising needs!
The kit contains 20 Cover Cream samples and a Translucent finishing powder providing everything you need to really start creating the perfect colour for your skin tone.
I also loved that this kit contained a yellow, rose, green and mauve cover cream to really help you get the right undertones.

Application

I decided to get stuck right in and took the smallest swatch from the Brown sample, I applied to my skin and realised that there was a reason for all the different colours in the kit. I am not just 'brown', it took a while for me to get a 'fitting' shade as it seems as though I am a mixture of several colours.

In the end I took the tiniest swatches from Brown, Yellow, Rose and Peach
and applied to my tattoo in a dabbing motion.
Now let's talk a little bit about the above.
Firstly I struggled to find the right shade which is no fault to Veil but more down to my inexperience with customising shades with so many options to choose from.
You can also see some of my tattoo from this application, this is due to the amount I used, believe it or not I only dabbed my finger on the top of each cream, I did not scoop or swipe, just dabbed.
The coverage from a dab is just astonishing!

The Cover Cream is FULL coverage, and no not MAC full coverage but REAL FULL COVERAGE.
This is down to the consistency of the creams, they are thick but warm up once they are in contact with body heat which makes them quite pliable however I wouldn't really recommend applying these with a brush, I used my fingers to apply and then used a powder brush to set everything lightly with the translucent powder.

My Thoughts

This kit is pretty amazing, it can used for a range of things not just to camouflage scars, this sort of kit can be used for stage make up as well as in an MUA's kit (more for concealer then foundation)
For the price you cannot go wrong, essentially your getting 20 full coverage concealers for £40. Bargain!

If you have tattoos that you wish to cover, scars that you don't want to be seen or you just want more than medium coverage this IS the kit for you.

You can read up more on Veil and their camouflage cosmetics via their website HERE

Summer Make Up Essentials

The UK is usually either hit or miss during the months of July, August and September. It's almost as though the weather never gets the memo regarding summer, however this year, jheeeeeez it's definitely caught up!

IT HAS BEEN HOT!!

Some days I have loved it, others, not so much (I work in an office without AC, sigh.)
The hot weather has also been a bother for us make up lovers, it has been near impossible for me to put on makeup and to be honest I was just too scared to risk it, but once the weather cooled down I indulged in my cosmetics.

I have combination skin (mostly oily t-zone) so I need to be careful in hot weather, however, I've found a few products that have been working amazingly for me in this summer!

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer - This is a great lightweight primer that I use solely on my T-zone to stop that midday shine. I love the consistency of this as it isn't too heavy and it's a fab pocket size as well!

MUFE Face & Body - For a base I've been loving everything lighter, BB creams are great to wear in this weather especially for those of you with dry skin. I've been reaching for either my Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, Sleek BB Cream or my MUFE Face & Body. This foundation is very sheer but fantastic for summer, for extra coverage go in with a corrector before you apply and top up with concealer afterwards.

MAC Studio Fix Powder - I just picked this up recently so I'm cheating a little bit by putting this up as a fav. This is too light for me to use solely as a foundation (even though it's in my shade...thanks MAC, not!) however a light dusting of it over my base really helps to set it.

Covergirl Queen Bronzer in Ebony Bronze - Thank GOD for this product! A beautiful and super affordable bronzer for us ladies of colour! I love the healthy sun kissed glow it gives me when I've applied this after my foundation, this is definitely one of my favourite beauty products of all time, a real winner!

Graftobian Setting Spray - Hairspray but for the face! (Kevin Hart voice) This stuff is REAL! It took me a while to learn how to use this but I've now got the hang of it, I spray it on my brush and then stipple it on my face. This sets my makeup fabulously and makes sure it lasts all day!

MAC Pressed Blot Powder in Dark - Those of you will an oily disposition lisssen up! This stuff is a GOD SEND! I suffer from a really oily t-zone which is super annoying for a person who likes the matte look. I find only an hour has to pass before my face becomes reflective but once I apply this, it is all resolved. This is one of those products you need to have in your handbag! Two thumbs up from me!

Daniel Sandler's Watercolour  Fluid Blush in Dare - Possibly one of the smartest cosmetic products around. Heat is no match for this fiesty lil bottle of blush.
This blush is waterproof and blends into the skin effortlessly leaving you with the most natural flush of colour that lasts all day! Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself! Daniel offers samples in his range of watercolour blushes, you can order them from HERE

Maybelline Color Tattoos - I am aware of the various fads that pass through the blogosphere, I usually tend to ignore them because I feel that most times the product is overhyped, however, when I decided that I wanted to play around with more colours, eyeshadow wise ,I went to Boots to take advantage of their Maybelline offer and I picked myself up some colour tattoos and you know what? This is a hype I can understand! Not only are the colours absolutely STUNNING, they are long lasting, creaseproof (for those of us with oily lids) and inexpensive for the amount of product needed. This is a fab product to ensure you eyeshadow lasts all day and retains pigmentation! Will definitely pick up more of these!

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara - My first 'pricey' mascara but definitely worth it. This mascara really separates the lashes and opens up the eyes, the wand is fantastic as it is slightly tapered so it can really be used for the upper lashes as well as the lower. This stuff stays all day! Definitely one of my favourite mascara's, the only down side? It dries up quite quickly :(

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold -   This blush is a relatively new buy that I discovered by accident in Superdrug. A tester of this was open and had been used quite hevaily, I had seen the gold sheen that it gave off from this tester and fell in love with it immediately! For a blush its a little bit underwhelming but for a highlighter this is PERFECT especially for us women of colour. The gold flecks are so finely milled it just glides on, you can also add this to your favourite matte blush to jazz it up!

Mary Kay Makeup Finishing Spray - A good finishing spray is the foundation to flawless looking make up. It is also a must for hot weather. We tend to put on more make up sometimes in the hot weather so to avoid the cakey look a setting spray is a must! The Mary Kay Finishing Spray is too fold, not only does it take away the cakey-ness for a more natural look it is also amazing as a face mist. This finishing spray was created by Skindinavia for Mary Kay so you know you're not going to be disappointed  This feels so cooling on my face and the mist sprays evenly and lightly. This is another one for the handbag and great to use on stuffy public transport too.

All the above are fantastic products that keep my make up look 100 in the summer.
If you want to see how I use these products click HERE to view my Natural Bronze tutorial.

IMATS London 2013 Haul

Last Saturday I found myself at IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) London 2013.

It was the first time I had been and
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
It was literally my idea of heaven besides the heat and the queues!

I picked up a few bits and bobs that I am really happy with, my only regret was not actually buying anything off the NARS stand, if I had known it was 60% off I would have gone to town but you live and you learn!

I will definitely be going back next year, I've already begun my list! Haha!

Scroll down for some pics of the day as well as my haul video!

I've tried out and worn all of the products above and I was super happy with everything.

If you're a make up lover I would definitely recommend IMATS to you!

Did you go IMATS?

If you did what did you pick up?

Daniel Sandler Swatches and Initial Review

If you have read my previous post you'll see my recent Daniel Sandler haul.

I have swatching away like a busy bee to give you an initial review of the products I picked up recently!

So go and get yourself a good ol' cuppa, get comfy and let's get started!
(Don't forget to click the pictures to enlarge!)

Firstly let's talk about...

Perfect Canvas Fluid Foundation

Daniel Sandler Perfect Canvas 10 12 14 15

Daniel Sandler's Perfect Canvas Fluid Foundation is described as a foundation that:
" provides invisible perfection for every face and skin tone. Proven outstanding in providing a gentle, and uniformly applied makeup to even out skin tone and blemishes, leaving a velvety smooth finish, providing medium coverage"
and I totally agree!

Perfect Canvas is for those of us who want to even out our skin tone for a natural everyday look.
I liken the finish of it to MAC Studio Fix Fluid.
I found that you do not need a lot of this product for it to work well for you.
I firstly applied Shade 10 with a dry stipple brush however applying it this way made me feel like I had far too much product on so I went in again with my fingers and blended it into areas of my face that needed coverage.

This provided a more natural look which I loved!

On a separate occasion I also wore Shade 15, applied with a damp stipple brush. This was by far my favourite way to wear this foundation. It provided me with a dewy, natural and even looking skin tone.

The great thing about this product is that it is multi faceted!
It is a great product to mix with your daily moisturiser for a dewy natural look or this can also be used as an under eye concealer! Fab or what?!

What I absolutely adore about Daniel Sandler's products is the colour range!!
As a woman of colour it is always a God send to find a beauty range that not only caters to women of colour but the different tones that we come in!
As you can see above Daniel's products cater for reddish undertones as well as golden undertones.

I have swatched Perfect Canvas along with my other foundations so that you can get an idea of the tones of Perfect Canvas.
Daniel Sandler Perfect Canvas 10 12 Comparisons
Shade 10 is the shade that is most suited to my skin tone (at the moment) as you can see from the swatch above. I expect when the sun finally shows itself I may have to adjust this which I can do by mixing shades together.

Next we have...

Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact SPf25

Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact 8 10
Catwalk Compact is described as the following:
"Cream-in-a-compact leaves smooth matte finish and setting properties of a powder... Coverage is buildable, from moderate to high. Suitable for combination to oily skin types."

Initially I was not going to pick up this compact, I had never used a cream to powder foundation but from personal recommendation from Daniel himself I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did!!

This product is fabulous!
Great to store in your handbag and easy to apply.
It is also very light weight which makes it blend in like a dream!
As you can see from the swatches above this product is build-able providing medium to full coverage.
I would say try this out if your a fan of MAC's Studio Tech foundation.

The website recommended applying this with a damp brush for a sheer look, however I applied with a stipple brush, powdered and set with MAC Fix + for a more full coverage look.
Before and After Daniel Sandler Catwalk Compact 8 10
Here I used as many of the products above so that you can get an idea of tones and coverage offered. I am normally one for sheer/medium coverage but for the sake of this review I built up coverage to medium to full.

I applied both shades of the Catwalk Compact on my face and Perfect Canvas in Shade 10 underneath my eyes.
I then set my face with On The Loose powder in Shade 15.

As it seems like it has been winter forever here in the UK, these shades are coming up a little bit warm for me, (my winter shade is quite pale) however I don't imagine this being a problem in the summer.

All in all I am super impressed with this products!
They are a FABULOUS price as well as being Women Of Colour friendly!
They are also VERY versatile.
Each product can be used a number of ways ensuring you get the best use out of it, which is great for those of you who like to customise your make up or who work as MUAs!

For more information or to purchase these items visit Daniel Sandler's website HERE.

What do you think of Daniel Sandler products?
Are you tempted to try them out?

50 Shades Of Orange

Orange Lipstick NYX
L-R:

Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti/ NYX Lipstick in Femme with NYX Lip Gloss in Natural/ NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Fick with Maybelline Popstick in Citrus Slice

Welllllll...not really 50 shades...as you can clearly see it's more like 3.

With Spring on the way I have been preparing looks like a maniac, I have never been so excited for warmth. It feels as though every year winter gets colder (if that makes sense,) I cannot deal with it.

As well as sorting out my Spring wardrobe (looks coming up in a post soon) I've also been sorting out Spring/Summer make up.

I've realised that I own several orange lipsticks, however I haven't really paid much attention to them, but orange is a great colour to rock for Spring!

Here you can see the varying shades that you can go for!

Tutti Frutti Lip Butter by Revlon is gorgeous, nourishing and very subtle in colour but still does the job. Fabulous and easy to wear. I had to add brown lip liner to ensure that this did not look too ashy on my skin tone. I think this look may be my go to look for Spring. Easy but effective!

NYX Round Lipstick in Femme is much creamier in colour and texture, however once again it goes on fab. To make this more wearable for my skin tone I once again had to add a brown lipliner and NYX's Round Lip Gloss in Natural to add warmth to it. I wouldn't recommend darker skin tones wearing this lippie on it's own but if you have a neutral warm toned lip gloss it would definitely work!

For the more daring NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick is amaze!
A bright warm toned orange that will definitely get you noticed.
As this is so bright you do have work to do to make it wearable.
Firstly, make sure your lips are prepped; one thing this lipstick does not deal with is unprepared non moisturised lips, remove all excess skin with a lip scrub or brush and moisturise however remember to remove the product/lip balm, we don't want it to sit on the lips, we only want it to soften them.
Once you have done this apply the lipstick, it goes on nice and bright!
Add your lip liner and blend, you will need either a brush or a finger for this, smacking lips wont do the trick.
To help the lipstick to blend with my lip liner I added the Maybelline Popstick in Citrus Slice (please DO NOT buy this, it was a waste of money and I am running out of ways to make it useful.)
Blend until you are happy and voila!
A gorgeous bright orange lip, perfecto for Spring and festival season!

I hope you can take something from this if you're not used to wearing colour on your lips!

Do you think you will try out orange?
Which lipstick is your favourite?

February Goodies

So, I'm about to impose a Spending Ban on myself so naturally I am going crazy buying all I need before the 13th.
Here are some beauty goodies that I have picked up lately.
All of these products are new products that I have never tried before (besides the blush which is my go to blush, LAV IT!) so I'm looking forward to seeing how they go!

I will do an in dept review of most of the products here so stay tuned.

Fashion Fair Oil Free Perfect Finish Souffle

Hey Beauties!
This review has been a long time coming but due to a broken camera, a misplaced USB cable and a lack of sunlight this has taken longer than normal.
Nevermind, it's here now.

I decided to pick up this foundation after seeing how flawless DestinyGodley looked wearing it.
I took myself to Debenhams and was quickly matched up to the shade 'Tender.'

The Fashion Fair website describes Perfect Finish Souffle as the following:

'skin perfecting, full coverage cream foundation. Absorbs oil for a stay-true-powder-soft finish. Covers and conceals imperfections for flawless even-tone skin.'

Application

This foundation comes in a simple glass jar, no spatula, no nothing.
So application is essentially down to you.
I dab my finger lightly into the foundation, as a little goes a long way with this product, and apply what transfers onto my face, I do this several times until I feel I have covered enough ground (or in this case, face.)
I then go in with a stippling brush and blend in circular motions.
Now, this foundation is FAST DRYING and thick but the addition of primer helps to blend this out a bit better.

My Thoughts

Let's get straight to the point here.
I am not loving this foundation. I am not even sure if I am liking it.
It is hard to blend and I am almost certain I have been matched to the wrong shade. (You can see how light it is via the picture with flash above.)
I find Tender dull looking on my skin so I've taken to mixing it with my GOSH BB Cream in Espresso.
This bring a bit more life to it.
For the case of this review I have skipped out mixing the foundation with the BB cream so that you can see its true colour.

As you can see from my bare face (eeeeek!) and my made up face, coverage is amazing!
This product CANNOT be faulted on that!
My blemishes are covered with one layer and this is without the addition of concealer or powder!

Perfect Finish is an oil free foundation, which I figured was another plus as I have combination (mostly oily) skin.
However, I found after 20 minutes or so I had shine on my T-Zone even with powder.

All in all this product just sits wrong with me.
It's heavy duty which is something I'm not entirely used to and this may be why I am not a fan.
I can feel it on my face and it does not feel too comfortable.
I may love this more if I applied with a damp beauty blender instead of a simple stipple brush, which I may try.

For those of you who love full coverage foundation this may be for you however I suggest applying with a beauty blender and finishing off with a setting spray to give a less cakey look.

Where To Buy

Fashion Fair Oil Free Perfect Finish Souffle Make-Up can be purchased from Debenhams in the UK for £22.00 HERE

If you live in the US you can purchase Perfect Finish Souffle directly from the Fashion Fair website HERE

The Festive Look

At Christmas you have to go a lil bit 'all out' and get your 'fabulous' on!
You should also have a make up look to accompany those glad rags and this is mine.
The classic siren look with a twist.

The focus being the eyes and the lips without one overpowering the other.

How To Achieve This Look

For a flawless base make sure you apply primer, as the siren look is more about the eyes and lips we want to keep the face flawless and away from shine!
Use a mattifying primer such as Laura Mercier's Oil Free Foundation Primer.

Then move onto foundation, once again we want to reinforce the matte appearance so use a foundation such as MAC Matchmaster which is matte and adapts to the skin's natural tone. In this look I used shade 7.5. Conceal any imperfections with your favourite concealer.
I used MAC Studio Finish Concealer in shade NC50.

Next, I applied a base colour on my lid.
This colour should be the same colour as your skin tone, we do not want an overpowering colour, just something to create a more flawless base.
In this case I used my MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in Deep Dark as this is a perfect colour to mimic my skin tone.

To create some definition to the eye and to create an uber subtle smokey eye I applied a dark brown eyeshadow to the outer corner of my crease and blended well.

Once I was happy with that I went in my a black gel eyeliner and lined my top lid.
You can use Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink.
A stiff eyeliner brush will aid greatly in creating the PERFECT flick, however if you are not too great at this have some cotton buds and make up remover near by to clear up any mistakes!

Line the outer corner of your bottom lid with a brown eyeliner pencil to enhance the subtle smokey look. MAC Kohl Eyeliner in Teddy is perfect for this!
Use a pencil brush to smoke it out a little bit.

Add mascara, my current FAAAVVV is Lancome's Hynose Doll Eyes and then add your favourite flirty lashes and viola!
Eyes complete!
Simple right?!?

Now lips!
You can go with a classic red lip but yawn!!
Where's the fun in that?!

Let's go ombre!

Take a dark plum lip liner such as MAC's Night Moth or Vino and line your lips, focussing mostly on the outer corners of your mouth.
Then apply your lipstick and blend
I used MAC's Lipstick in Runaway Red but you can use Diva or M.A.C Red.
For an added pop, dab pink lipstick onto the center of your lips!

Once satisfied, tidy up neatly with your concealer and set your make up with your favourite finishing powder.

And there you have it!
A simple but effective festive look perfect for all skin tones!

What do you think?
Will you be trying this out for your xmas parties?
What would you substitute?

LimeCrime Red Velvet

Limecrime Velvetines Red Velvet

Ladies and gentlefolk welcome to my blog post about my new favourite red lippie.

It is no secret that I am a big fan of all things lipstick, especially red lipstick so when I came across a picture of Lime Crime's Velvetines in Red Velvet on Instagram I fell in love INSTANTLY.

Lime Crime itself is a unique American based vegan and cruelty free brand, founded by Doe Deere, the brand creates...
' a unique blend of innovative beauty products and fantasy presentation. Ranging from opaque lipsticks to eyeliners and eyeshadows, Lime Crime is a known trend-setter of the makeup world."
Lime Crime is a brand that isn't afraid to be different and their new Velvetines prove this.

Their Velvetines come in two colours:
Red Velvet
and
Suedeberry
and are described as the following:
'Long-lasting waterproof liquid lipstick that goes on with the ease of gloss and dries completely matte.'

The description sums up the product perfectly really!

Application

Application was a bit messy, this was due to the fact that the product is a liquid which comes with a doe foot applicator.
I think maybe a brush would have been more ideal but it wasn't too much of a big deal breaker...nothing that concealer couldn't fix.

I didn't apply any lipliner, instead I went straight in with the product, applying a first layer and letting that dry.
Coverage was superb with one coat however I went in with another, well...just because!

Drying is a bit odd, maybe because I'm used to matte products drying super fast, however with the Velvetines expect to wait a little bit longer than usual. Around maybe half a minute to a minute.

Once it dried I tidied up the edges with some concealer.
Simples.

My Thoughts

I LOVE THIS!!!!!!
Why?
For various reasons, but mostly because of the colour pay off.
I liken it to Ruby Woo on crack!
Very bright and vivid but long lasting and the soft non-drying matte finish just makes this product a winner.
Perfect for the classic red lip for a vintage, siren look.
It works perfect on my skin tone and I am more than sure that it would also look amazing on paler skin tones but if you are unsure and you own
Ruby Woo then this will work for you!
I definitely recommend this product!
I think I will be purchasing more products from Lime Crime from now on, I love the idea of their daring lip colours and eyeliners.

Where To Buy

If you live in the US you can purchase Lime Crime products directly for their site HERE
The Velvetines retail for $16.99

I purchased my Lime Crime Velvetines from Love Makeup.com HERE.
At current they only stock the Red Velvet Velvetine which retails for £11.50.
I also received a free sample pot of Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper too!
Result!

What do you think about the Velvetines?

Have you tried any Lime Crime products?

Would you recommend?

Let me know!

Berrylicious

This week has been fulla ups and downs...I am back on the job hunt as my temp job is coming to an end, I was feeling sorry for myself because I did enjoy working there and my contract was not extended but after some time I realised God must have other plans for me so I shouldn't be too sad about the situation...it's just the thought of being unemployed that scares the hell outta me! That added to the arrival of winter and the days getting shorter I've been feeling a bit MEH about everything this week but I'm trying to remain positive! Pay day is on it's way! ;)

This is today's face which I also posted up on my Instagram (@NatalieKayo.)
This face was inspired by a mish mash of YT vids that I had seen by the following talented ladies:
I took the subtle smokey eye from the Charlotte Tilbury and Jackie-O tutorial and the berry lip from Jennie.

I really like this look and I'm loving the brown smokey eye, I will definitely use this again but I'll probably use a lighter base such as a BB cream (all about the Sleek one right now as well as the Skin 79 and Skin Base combo! Two thumbs up baby!)

Face

Body Shop "Matte It" Primer
Illamasqua Skin Base in SB15
L.A Girl Pro Conceal in Fawn

Stay blessed lovelies!
